Course Breakdown
CWMT's comprehensive 16-hour program represents the minimum standard of training for the outdoor leader, instructor, guide or recreational adventurer. It provides a practical perspective on dealing with common wilderness injuries through to life-threatening situations. The program is divided between classroom and practical skills, utilizing scenarios and simulations to enhance learning and develop effective interventions and competent patient care.
This Course Is For
This course is for individuals who would like to begin thinking about the challenges when 911 is hours or days away. Be careful — this course just might be a gateway into a lifelong desire to know more about the human body and what can go suddenly wrong.
What You Will Gain
Participants will gain an understanding of decision-making in remote environments. They will learn to connect the mechanism of injury with potential outcomes for the trauma patient, and to use resources effectively should evacuation be necessary.

- Environmental Emergencies — Heat Illnesses / Hyperthermia
- Cold Injuries / Hypothermia

- Allergies, Anaphylaxis & Epinephrine
Recertification
There is no recertification for this introductory program. Successful participants may choose to retake the course every 3 years, or upgrade to the Advanced Wilderness First Aid level by taking an additional 2-day course within a year of completing this program.
